1. In your opinion, did Ji-Su do what was best for Gyung-Min by sending him overseas to study the piano? Why? Why not?
In my opinion, she did a great job because Gyung-Min will be more successful if he is taught by the expert of music. Especially, he has the gift. That is, he is talented in playing piano. If Ji-Su doesn’t send him to overseas to study the piano, he wouldn’t exert all his talent inside him. The best decision for him is letting some master of music teach him in person so that it would enhance his skills. It’s also the key point to decide whether he will be famous or not.
2. Do you think that it is important for young children like Gyung-Min to have a loving parent (or adult) to care for them as they grow up? Why? Why not?
It is absolutely for young children like Gyung-Min to have a loving parent, for many children who are abandoned or isolated would feel gloomy and lonely. As for them, it would be wonderful to have nice parents to keep them company. As a result, when they feel melancholy, they have someone to rely on. Most importantly, nowadays, people in the urban area are selfish and arrogant, so they won’t even care about the people who are dying. Why do you think they would care about a child like Gyung-Min who just lost his parents? In my opinion, everyone in the world needs love, even the animals are no exception. I would love to help a poor and abandoned child to grow up if I have enough money. Besides that, I would also donate some money to them if I don’t have enough money.
3. What other things could Ji-Su have done differently in her efforts to teach and care for Gyung-Min?
There is no denying that she has already done very well. However, if she can bring him to have the course of mental counseling, perhaps he would not be frightened by the light at the stage. He would suddenly become famous for this. In addition, if I were Ji-Su, I would bring him to travel as much as possible in order to inspire his ideas in his mind and to widen his horizons.
4. Do you think that striving for fame and success is the most important thing a person can and should do with their life? Why? Why not?
Hi Brian,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your opinion about this movie and the issues that it raises concerning what is more impoortant in life ... to have love and stability or to strive for fame and success.
Like many students you seem to have no problem with what the piano teacher did for Gyung-Min by sending him overseas to study. On the other hand, you say that a stable andloving family is most important for a young child. This is inconsistent. You arelooking at the issues solely thorugh the eyes of the piano teacher, and not through the eyes of the boy (Gyung-Min). He is not much interested in fame and success; all he wants is a loving parent and stable home life. And Ji-Su (piano teacher) could have done a lot more for him than just send him overseas to study.
