Some people in this modern society might think why women should be exempted from the military service. Besides that, they might think that men and women are created equal, so military service should be compulsory for them, too. However, I do not agree with this at all. There are many reasons why military service is not appropriate for women.
First, women are weaker than men in their physical nature. Although some supporters may say that military service is also a very practical way for women to learn a wide range of skills, women are virtually unable to receive the tough training or execute a dangerous mission. For instance, they can’t lift up items as heavy as the items those men lift up, and they cannot reach the destination as distant as the men reach. I do not mean that women are inferior to men. What I mean is that some women might triumph over men in the aspect of stamina, but the majority of women are just left behind by a majority of men. Furthermore, barracks are usually situated in bad location. The bad weather with a harsh training would make them faint. Even though they don’t faint, doing exercises in the scorching hot weather will make them go crazy. Worse of all, there is no denying that a small number of vacancies are only provided for those who are skillful and versatile enough to work in the office. Then, even if they can endure the strict rules and harsh trainings, the woman’s monthly period, called “menstrual cycle” in Taiwan, is still a big predicament and obstacle for them to overcome. Thinking about putting a wet tissue paper under your underpants for a week makes the training virtually unfeasible. On the other hand, men don’t have these kinds of problems. Without the doubt, men cannot be replaced by women for mandatory and compulsory for the military service.
Second, it is obvious that the officer is usually a man. As a consequence, there might be some immoral things happening. For example, a general in the army has to care about his soldiers and will have contact with them more or less. If the general makes female soldiers deal with something, the female soldiers who are gorgeous might attract the general. Then, something evil and heinous might happen. As a result, the boundary between the male soldiers and female soldiers should be very strict. Otherwise, no one knows what will happen if male and female soldiers have many opportunities to see one another in the neighborhood. Hence, it is improper to keep a lot of female soldiers in the military.
Third, as a mother, the most important job for a woman is having a son to carry on the family name. Apparently, a woman who is pregnant will never fight on the battlefield. In my opinion, women should raise their children up at home because it is their job to feed children breast milk. It is beyond my imagination that breastfeeding becomes the jobs of a father. In terms of science, it is healthy for children to have their mother to accompany them. It not only does them good in the aspect of physical health, but also mental health. However, if military service must be compulsory for women, it will be a catastrophe for them to give up the time with their babies. Therefore, the government will make a blunder if they make such an insensible decision that they force women to serve in the military.
Ultimately, I think it is more appropriate for men to have a compulsory military service instead of women. As for the physical differences between men and women, the answer will be very clear that women should just stay at home taking care of the children instead of doing something challengeable and unsuitable in the military.
