The unsuitable candidates

To: William Patween, Jean Bains, and Odette Bouchard.
From: Project “New Planet” Planning Committee and leader Brian Huang
Subject: Unsuitable candidates

William Patween:
Although you have many talents, you are too old to take challenge like this. Besides that, it is very difficult to grow anything on the other planets because it is a totally different place. In addition, a knife and a spear are both useless there. Worst of all, you got a cancer.
Jean Bains:
First of all, if we go to a very extraordinary planet, which is beyond description, your knowledge about the ocean and fish will not work at all. Moreover, you are an alcoholic. We won’t provide you with alcohols. One of the biggest reasons is we can’t carry many things. Then, you cannot take a risk to adept a tough condition if you are an alcoholic.
Odette Bouchard:
Young as you are, you don’t have any skills and competence. You should know the place where we will go is extremely dangerous. Additionally, if we need any professional aids in this ship, you don’t know how to help us and you will just do nothing and zone out. You shouldn’t come with us on account of the reasons of professional skills.

  1. Hi Brian,

Thanks for you memo. Actually, I wanted you to write to me directly, rather than to the candidates themselves. They were all expecting to go, and it will be very difficult for them to accept that they cannot go. Although the reasons you have given are mostly correct, still we want to have compassion when we tell them that they can't go.
